Workday SME / HR Systems Lead

Position: Manager, HR Operations & Systems (Workday SME)
Location: Toronto, ON | Hybrid (3 days onsite)
Salary: Up to $130K + vacation pay
Job Type: 12-month contract

We’re hiring a Workday SME with strong HR Operations experience to join a leading retail organization on a 12-month contract (maternity leave coverage).

This is not a backend implementation role. We’re looking for a hands-on Workday power user who understands how HR processes and systems work end-to-end—and can triage issues, identify root causes, and guide solutions in a restricted tenant environment (configuration owned externally).

What you’ll do:

- Lead HR systems operations and intake/triage (Jira/helpdesk model)
- Diagnose issues across Workday, integrations, and payroll impacts
- Recommend workarounds, process improvements, and system changes
- Act as liaison with the external Workday team for configuration updates
- Support Core HCM, Recruitment (ATS), Compensation, and Payroll workflows
- Coach and mentor 2 junior team members
- Contribute to reporting, insights, and process optimization

What we’re looking for:

- Strong, hands-on Workday experience (Core HCM required) with strong background in HR operations
- Background in HR Operations / HRIS (not purely technical)
- Experience working in a tenant or restricted Workday environment is a bonus
- Ability to triage issues and determine root cause (system vs process vs integration)
- Understanding of end-to-end HR lifecycle and payroll impact
- Strong communication skills to translate issues into clear recommendations
- Exposure to Advanced Compensation, Payroll, or Reporting is an asset
