Position: Backend Software Engineer – Rust
Location: Oakville / West GTA
Work Model: Hybrid, 3 days in office

We are hiring a Backend Software Engineer with strong Rust expertise to join a growing engineering team building secure, scalable, high-performance backend services for a next-generation identity and security platform.
This is a hands-on coding role suited for someone who enjoys systems-level backend development, high-performance web services, API design, and security-focused engineering.
What You’ll Be Working On:
You will design and build backend services in Rust, develop REST and/or gRPC APIs, and contribute to secure workflows involving identity, certificates, and system operations. You will also work closely with architecture, frontend, and cloud engineering teams to build reliable, scalable services in a cloud-native environment.
- Designing and building high-performance backend services in Rust
- Developing REST/gRPC APIs
- Building asynchronous and concurrent systems using Rust best practices
- Working with PostgreSQL schemas, transactions, indexing, and query optimization
- Supporting containerized and Kubernetes-based deployments
- Contributing to secure communication flows, including TLS/SSL and certificate-related workflows
- Writing clean, maintainable, testable code
- Participating in technical design discussions and API contract planning
What We’re Looking For:
- 3–6 years of backend development experience
- Strong hands-on experience with Rust
- Experience with async Rust, including Tokio and async/await
- Experience with Rust web frameworks such as Axum, Actix, or Warp
- Strong understanding of ownership, concurrency, memory safety, and performance optimization
- Experience building RESTful or gRPC APIs
- Strong PostgreSQL experience, including schema design and query optimization
- Familiarity with Docker, Kubernetes, and CI/CD pipelines
- Understanding of secure coding practices and TLS/SSL fundamentals
Nice to Have:
- Experience with PKI, certificate authorities, ACME protocol, or certificate lifecycle management
- Experience with KMS or HSM integrations
- Identity and access management experience
- Security or infrastructure platform experience
- Exposure to Next.js or frontend API integration
