About the Opportunity

Our client, a global leader in industrial automation and supply chain, is seeking an experienced HR Manager to lead the Human Resources function at one of its largest Canadian operations. This is a highly visible role that partners closely with site leadership to support a unionized workforce while driving employee engagement, organizational effectiveness, and operational excellence.

Reporting to the Site Leadership team, the HR Manager will oversee all aspects of Human Resources, including labour relations, employee relations, talent management, payroll administration, compliance, and leadership coaching. This position also provides leadership to an HR Coordinator and plays an integral role in supporting ongoing organizational growth and change initiatives.

Key Responsibilities:

- Act as the primary HR partner to site leadership, providing strategic and day-to-day guidance on employee relations, organizational effectiveness, workforce planning, and change management.
- Build strong relationships with leaders, employees, union representatives, and shop stewards while fostering a positive and collaborative workplace culture.
- Lead labour relations activities, including grievance management, disciplinary processes, interpretation of collective agreements, and participation in union meetings.
- Coach and support managers on employee performance, workplace investigations, conflict resolution, attendance management, and progressive discipline.
- Oversee recruitment, onboarding, succession planning, performance management, and employee development initiative.
- Identify opportunities to improve engagement, retention, and leadership capability through practical HR programs and coaching.
- Manage workplace investigations and recommend appropriate resolutions while ensuring legislative compliance and consistency.
- Partner with payroll by reviewing and validating payroll, attendance, and timekeeping information prior to processing.
- Support disability management, WSIB claims, return-to-work programs, and employee benefit inquiries.
- Analyze HR metrics and trends to identify opportunities for continuous improvement and provide recommendations to leadership.
- Ensure compliance with employment legislation, health and safety standards, company policies, and collective agreements.
- Lead and mentor the HR Coordinator, providing guidance, coaching, and support for daily HR operations.
- Assist with employee engagement initiatives, recognition programs, and company events.
- Participate in HR projects, organizational initiatives, and continuous improvement activities across the business.
- Travel occasionally to other Canadian locations and internationally as required.

Qualifications:

- Post-secondary education in Human Resources, Business, or a related discipline; CHRL designation is considered an asset.
- 5-7+ years of progressive Human Resources experience within a manufacturing, distribution, logistics, or industrial environment.
- 3+ years experience supporting a unionized environment is mandatory.
- Demonstrated success supporting a unionized workforce with strong labour relations experience.
- Proven experience interpreting collective agreements, managing grievances, conducting investigations, and advising leaders on employee relations matters.
- Solid understanding of Ontario employment legislation, labour law, WSIB, Human Rights, and Occupational Health & Safety requirements.
- Experience supporting payroll administration, attendance management, and HRIS systems.
- Strong coaching and relationship-building skills with the ability to influence leaders at all levels.
- Highly organized with exceptional problem-solving skills and the ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced operational environment.
- Professional, approachable, and confident communication style with a fair and balanced approach to conflict resolution.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office and HRIS systems; experience with SAP, Kronos, UKG, or Dayforce is considered an asset.
