Position: Firewall & Network Security Specialist
Location: Toronto, Hybrid - 3 days onsite
Job Type: 12-month contract

The Firewall & Network Security Specialist supports the design, implementation, and ongoing operation of the organization’s network security infrastructure. This role works closely with IT Security Architecture and Operations teams to ensure secure, reliable, and scalable network protection while enabling business operations. The specialist contributes to improving security processes, identifying effective technical solutions, and maturing firewall governance and orchestration practices in alignment with organizational and operational goals.

Role Responsibilities:

Network Security Operations
- Administer, manage, and optimize next-generation firewall platforms.
- Review, implement, and validate firewall change requests from cross-functional teams.
- Support daily operations related to firewall governance and orchestration solutions, contributing to their continuous improvement.
- Audit firewall policies, maintain documentation, and perform rule clean-up and optimization.
- Implement firewall changes in accordance with established change management processes.

Incident Response & Threat Management
- Participate in troubleshooting, major incident response, and root cause analysis (RCA).
- Support incident response investigations when security events are confirmed.
- Monitor real-time network security events and respond appropriately.
- Analyze network forensic data to identify indicators of compromise.
- Research and correlate security events to determine classification, root cause, and impact.
- Identify emerging cyber threats, tactics, techniques, and procedures (TTPs), and provide actionable threat intelligence.

Asset & Technology Management
- Provide advanced support for network security platforms and liaise with technology vendors as needed.
- Take ownership of incidents and problem tickets related to security technologies and drive them to resolution.
- Support acquisition, implementation, configuration, and operational management of future security solutions.

Service Management
- Resolve service tickets related to network security technologies in a timely manner.
- Follow ITIL processes for Incident, Problem, Request, and Change Management.

Continuous Improvement & Documentation
- Identify opportunities to enhance security technologies, processes, and risk reduction.
- Maintain and update technical documentation, including procedures, standards, and knowledge base articles.
- Ensure compliance with applicable security policies, standards, and regulatory requirements.

Qualifications:

Education & Experience
- Post-secondary degree or diploma in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or a related technical field, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Minimum of 5 years of experience in cybersecurity or network security.

Certifications (Preferred)
- CISSP, GCIH, CCIE-Security, or equivalent industry certifications.

Technical Expertise
- Required: Next-Generation Firewalls, Firewall Governance and Orchestration
- Strongly Preferred: Intrusion Detection and Prevention Systems (IDS/IPS)
- Nice to Have: DNS Firewalls, Web Application Firewalls (WAF), Security Information and Event Management (SIEM) platforms

Security & Framework Knowledge
- Experience with security architecture, cyber incident response, and continuous improvement of security technologies and processes.
- Familiarity with frameworks such as NIST Cybersecurity Framework and/or similar industry standards.
- Knowledge of ITIL practices and service management principles.
