Position: Privacy Manager
Location: 2 days onsite in Downtown Toronto (Near Union Station)
Role Overview:
Your job is to guide, implement, and enforce privacy regulations and best practices across the organization, balancing compliance with operational needs. You’ll also be responsible for evolving the privacy program, assessing risks, and ensuring that sensitive personal information (including health and financial data) is properly protected.
Key Responsibilities:
Consulting and Advisory
- Act as the go-to person for privacy laws and regulations (Canada, US, EU).- Provide guidance to business teams and management on interpreting privacy laws, internal policies, and industry standards.
Risk Management
- Work with Risk and Internal Audit to identify privacy risks.- Design and implement effective controls to mitigate these risks.Privacy Program Development- Maintain and enhance the companies privacy policies, processes, and infrastructure.- Ensure privacy-compliant practices are consistent across the organization.- Lead Privacy Impact Assessments (PIAs) and data mapping exercises.
Vendor Management
- Guide business teams on vendor privacy requirements.- Support vendor negotiations to ensure privacy compliance.
Audit and Compliance
- Participate in CSAE 3000/SOC 2 audits.- Ensure privacy controls are incorporated into governance and internal control frameworks.Awareness and Culture
- Promote privacy awareness across the organization.- Develop and implement training and standard methodologies.
Incident Management
- Manage the process for reporting, investigating, and resolving privacy complaints and breaches.- Coordinate with legal counsel as necessary.
The ideal person we’re looking for:
- Build and enhance privacy programs using advanced knowledge of relevant privacy laws, regulations and standards in Canada, the US, and the EU.
- Using the principles of change management and project management, execute privacy/compliance programs, risk management, and operational improvements.
- Foster strong relationships through cross-functional collaboration, teamwork, and problem-solving.
- Utilize your knowledge of IT and data management systems to improve security around sensitive information.
- Explain complex information to key stakeholders using effective communication and presentation skills.
