We are looking to hire a Product Design and Configuration Supervisor / Manager for a great manufacturing client located in Mississauga. The Product Design and Configuration Supervisor / Manager is responsible for leading the engineering team that supports current and new product design, configuration integrity, and product launches. This role ensures product scope is clearly defined, configurations are controlled, and engineering changes are executed through disciplined processes. This role will report to the Director / VP of Engineering & Manufacturing.
Your duties will include, but are not limited to:
- Lead engineering support for new product development and product launches, ensuring designs are manufacturable, configurable, and scalable.
- Own engineering deliverables from concept through release, including drawings, configurations, documentation, and launch readiness.
- Ensure clear product scope definition at project kickoff and throughout development to prevent scope creep and downstream disruption.
- Partner with Manufacturing, Quality, Supply Chain, and Product Management to ensure smooth transition to production.
- Own and govern product configuration logic, including options, constraints, and compatibility rules.
- Ensure product configurations align with defined scope, cost targets, and manufacturing capabilities.
- Work closely with Engineering Business Analysts to translate product requirements into structured, controlled configurations.
- Drive standardization and simplification of configurations to reduce complexity, errors, and lead time.
- Establish and enforce best practices for controlled drawings, revision control, and release processes.
- Lead and continuously improve ECR / ECO processes, ensuring proper impact assessment (cost, lead time, inventory, manufacturing), cross-functional alignment before release, timely and accurate implementation.
- Ensure engineering documentation is current, accurate, and auditable across all product lines.
- Maintain strong change discipline to support manufacturing stability and customer commitments.
- Lead, coach, and develop a multidisciplinary team including Engineering Business Analysts, Design Engineer(s), ECR / ECO Coordinator, Technical Support staff.
- Set clear expectations, priorities, and accountability aligned with business objectives.
- Balance workload across sustaining engineering and new product initiatives.
- Foster a culture of ownership, process discipline, and continuous improvement.
- Serve as the primary engineering liaison for Manufacturing & Operations, Customer Service / Technical Support, Quality and Supply Chain.
- Support resolution of technical issues impacting production or customers.
- Provide engineering input into cost reduction, standardization, and operational improvement initiatives.
Qualifications & Skills:
- Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or related engineering discipline.
- P.Eng considered an asset.
- 7+ years of experience in product engineering within a manufacturing environment.
- Proven experience managing engineering teams and cross-functional stakeholders.
- Strong background in configurable products, scope definition and product architecture, controlled drawings and revision management, ECR / ECO implementation and governance.
