Position: Senior Electrical Engineer

Our client is seeking a Senior Electrical Engineer to support the design, maintenance, and modernization of critical electrical infrastructure across transmission and distribution substations. This role combines engineering design, protection & control, project management, commissioning, and field support activities.
The successful candidate will work closely with engineers, designers, contractors, and operations teams to deliver capital and maintenance projects while ensuring system reliability, safety, and performance.
Key Responsibilities:
- Lead the design and delivery of substation and Protection & Control (P&C) projects.
- Perform power system studies, equipment selection, relay coordination, and protection settings.
- Support the configuration, commissioning, and troubleshooting of protection and automation systems within electrical substations..
- Develop testing and commissioning plans and support field commissioning activities.
- Provide technical support for substation operations, maintenance, and troubleshooting.
- Coordinate with contractors, suppliers, consultants, and internal stakeholders.
- Manage project scope, schedules, budgets, and deliverables.
- Review and develop electrical drawings, schematics, and protection diagrams.
- Mentor junior engineers and provide guidance to designers and project teams.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor's Degree in Electrical Engineering.
- P.Eng. designation (or eligible to obtain).
- 6+ years of experience in substation engineering, Protection & Control, or power systems.
- Strong knowledge of substation equipment, protection systems, and utility operations.
- Experience with SCADA, station communications, and automation systems.
- Project management experience with the ability to manage multiple concurrent projects.
- Strong communication and stakeholder management skills.
- Valid Ontario Class G Driver's License.
Preferred Experience:
- Experience with substation communication protocols, including IEC 61850 and GOOSE messaging.
- Proficiency with power system analysis and protection coordination tools (e.g., CYME, ETAP, SKM).
- Distribution automation and station communication networks.
- Utility, energy, mining, or large industrial environments.
