What you'll be doing:
- Source and manage key commodity materials including steel, aluminum, glass, and other building materials
- Develop and execute strategic sourcing plans that support cost, quality, and delivery objectives
- Negotiate pricing, contracts, payment terms, and long-term supplier agreements
- Develop and implement tariff mitigation strategies to reduce costs and minimize supply chain risks
- Monitor commodity markets, pricing trends, and supplier performance to support informed purchasing decisions
- Manually track inventory and material movement to ensure production continuity and inventory accuracy
- Lead RFQs, perform cost analysis, and identify opportunities for cost reduction and process improvements
- Partner with Production, Engineering, Planning, and Quality to ensure material availability and support production schedules
- Maintain accurate purchasing records and reporting using advanced Excel tools
What we're looking for:
- 5-7 years of commodity buying experience within a manufacturing environment
- Proven experience purchasing building materials such as steel, aluminum, glass, or similar commodities
- Hands-on experience with tariff mitigation and navigating cross-border sourcing challenges
- Experience manually tracking inventory and maintaining accurate inventory records
- Advanced Microsoft Excel skills (Pivot Tables, VLOOKUP/XLOOKUP, formulas, reporting, and data analysis) are required
- Strong negotiation, supplier relationship management, and contract administration skills
- Experience managing long lead-time commodities and developing sourcing strategies
- ERP/MRP experience (JD Edwards, SAP, Oracle, or similar) is considered an asset
- Excellent analytical, organizational, communication, and problem-solving skills
