Lead Payroll Transformation for a Leading Healthcare Organization
Our client, a large and highly respected healthcare organization, is seeking a strategic Payroll Manager to lead payroll operations for approximately 4,000 employees across a complex, unionized environment. Reporting to senior finance leadership, this is a high-impact leadership opportunity to oversee payroll operations, drive compliance, mentor a high-performing team, and play a key role in a major ERP transformation.

What You'll Be Doing:
- Lead the end-to-end payroll function supporting approximately 4,000 employees across a complex, unionized workforce.
- Manage, coach, and develop a team of five payroll professionals, fostering accountability and continuous improvement.
- Ensure payroll is processed accurately, on time, and in compliance with all legislative and regulatory requirements.
- Maintain strong payroll governance through reconciliations, audits, and robust internal controls.
- Oversee year-end payroll activities including T4 preparation, reconciliations, and statutory reporting.
- Partner closely with HR, Finance, union representatives, and leadership to resolve payroll matters and interpret collective agreements.
- Ensure compliance with CRA regulations and support internal and external audits.
- Serve as the payroll lead for a major ERP implementation, helping drive change management and process optimization.
- Identify opportunities to improve payroll systems, workflows, controls, and reporting.
- Build strong relationships with internal stakeholders while delivering exceptional payroll service.
What You Bring:
- Bachelor's degree in Business, Finance, Accounting, or a related discipline.
- Experience with Oracle ERP implementation.
- Canadian Payroll Manager (CPM) designation is required.
- 7+ years of progressive payroll experience within large, complex organizations.
- 5+ years of people leadership experience managing payroll teams.
- Extensive experience overseeing large-scale payroll operations in unionized environments.
- Strong knowledge of payroll legislation, CRA compliance, remittances, and year-end reporting.
- Experience working with enterprise ERP payroll systems.
- Excellent leadership, communication, problem-solving, and stakeholder management skills.
- Demonstrated ability to lead change, improve processes, and build high-performing teams.
Nice to Have:
- Healthcare, public sector, or broader public sector experience.
- CHRP designation and/or familiarity with OHA MIS Guidelines.
