Our client, a well-established and highly respected heavy civil contractor, is seeking an experienced Estimator to join its growing team. This is an exciting opportunity to work on large scale, multi-year underground utility infrastructure projects while playing a key role in securing major work across Alberta. Key Responsibilities:
- Prepare detailed cost estimates for civil earthworks and underground utility infrastructure projects.
- Review tender documents, specifications, drawings, and addenda to ensure complete and accurate pricing.
- Develop subcontractor bid packages and evaluate subcontractor execution strategies and pricing.
- Lead the preparation and submission of complete proposal packages.
- Develop overall construction plans, including scheduling, procurement, budgeting, and risk assessment.
- Prepare bid packages for Project Managers and Superintendents, including labour and equipment budgets, material suppliers, subcontractors, tender specifications, and contracts.
- Maintain and update estimating databases and costing systems to ensure current project data.
- Lead tender review meetings to evaluate scope, construction approach, production rates, scheduling, competitive landscape, and markup strategy.
- Prepare and submit tender documentation.
- Utilize B2W estimating software to develop comprehensive estimates.
- Collaborate with project managers, architects, subcontractors, suppliers, and other stakeholders throughout the estimating process.
- Research material, equipment, and subcontractor pricing.
- Evaluate and negotiate supplier and subcontractor quotations to achieve the best value.
- Maintain organized estimating documentation and provide ongoing support to project teams throughout the construction process.
Qualifications:
- Minimum of 10 years of estimating experience related to underground utility infrastructure.
- Direct experience estimating underground utility installation projects, including sewer, water, storm, and feedermain infrastructure.
- Experience bidding large scale, multi-year construction projects.
- Strong understanding of construction methods, materials, environmental regulations, and safety practices.
- Ability to read and interpret construction drawings, specifications, schedules, and cost reports.
- Strong proficiency with Microsoft Office, including Excel formulas, templates, and document tracking.
- Experience using B2W estimating software is considered an asset.
- P.Eng. or CET designation is preferred.
- Previous leadership or management experience is considered an asset.
- Excellent analytical, mathematical, organizational, and communication skills.
- Detail oriented with the ability to manage multiple priorities effectively.
