We are partnering with a well-established food manufacturing organization to hire a Senior Production Manager to lead operations within a high-volume, unionized production environment. This role is responsible for driving operational performance, developing teams, improving manufacturing processes, and ensuring compliance with food safety, quality, and workplace safety standards. The successful candidate will bring a proven track record of leadership, continuous improvement, and employee engagement within a fast-paced manufacturing setting.
Responsibilities:
- Provide leadership and direction to production teams to ensure safe, efficient, and cost-effective operations.
- Coach, mentor, and develop supervisors and front-line leaders while fostering a culture of accountability, collaboration, and continuous improvement.
- Drive operational excellence initiatives focused on improving productivity, efficiency, equipment performance, quality, and overall operational results.
- Monitor key performance indicators (KPIs) and implement action plans to achieve production, quality, safety, and cost targets.
- Lead continuous improvement initiatives utilizing Lean Manufacturing, TPM, and other operational excellence methodologies.
- Ensure adherence to all food safety, quality, regulatory, and workplace safety requirements.
- Collaborate closely with cross-functional departments including Maintenance, Quality, Supply Chain, Human Resources, and Engineering to support business objectives.
- Develop and implement departmental goals, procedures, and best practices to support operational performance.
- Lead workforce planning activities including recruitment, training, performance management, succession planning, employee development, and disciplinary processes.
- Support labour relations activities, including collective agreement administration, employee relations, grievance management, and workforce engagement initiatives.
- Promote a safe working environment by identifying risks, implementing corrective actions, and reinforcing compliance with all safety programs and procedures.
- Champion a culture focused on operational excellence, employee engagement, teamwork, and continuous improvement.
Requirements:
- Bachelors degree in Food Science, Food Technology, Engineering, Operations Management, Business, or a related field. Equivalent combinations of education and experience will be considered.
- Minimum 8 years of progressive leadership experience within a food manufacturing environment.
- Previous experience leading operations within a unionized facility is required.
- Strong knowledge of labour relations, collective agreement administration, grievance management, performance management, and employee engagement.
- Demonstrated success improving operational performance through continuous improvement initiatives.
- Proven experience leading Lean Manufacturing, TPM, operational excellence, and process improvement programs.
- Experience improving equipment effectiveness, productivity, quality, efficiency, and overall operational performance.
- Strong understanding of food safety, quality systems, regulatory compliance, and manufacturing best practices.
- Excellent leadership, communication, problem-solving, and stakeholder management skills.
- Proven ability to build, coach, and develop high-performing teams in a fast-paced manufacturing environment.
