Our client, a growing e-commerce organization within the grocery and consumer merchandise sector, is seeking a Senior Cost Accountant to join their team on a six-month contract. This role will support inventory accounting, cost analysis, financial reporting, audit activities, and process improvement initiatives in a fast-paced, technology-driven environment.
Key Responsibilities:
- Maintain cost accounting calculations, processes, and inventory valuation methodologies.
- Ensure accuracy of inventory balances and cost of goods sold (COGS) through collaboration with Operations, Supply Chain, FP&A, and other stakeholders.
- Investigate and resolve inventory discrepancies, including reconciliations between 3PL providers, vendor shipments, and goods in transit.
- Perform quarterly standard cost reviews and analyze the impact of cost changes.
- Support inventory management system implementations, testing, and process design initiatives.
- Prepare month-end journal entries, account reconciliations, variance analysis, and financial reporting for assigned areas.
- Analyze product costs, margins, profitability, and inventory trends.
- Support FP&A with reporting and analysis for senior leadership.
- Lead inventory-related audit activities, cycle counts, and internal control processes.
- Identify and implement process improvements to enhance inventory accuracy and reporting efficiency.
- Assist with ad hoc projects and financial analysis as required.
Qualifications:
- CPA designation or progress toward CPA is preferred
- 5+ years of accounting experience with a focus on cost accounting, inventory accounting, retail, distribution, e-commerce, consumer goods, or supply chain environments
- Strong understanding of inventory valuation, standard costing, reconciliations, and COGS
- Experience working with 3PL providers and multiple inventory or financial systems
- Comfortable operating in environments with manual processes and data from multiple sources
- Experience supporting audits, internal controls, and process improvements
- Advanced Excel skills, including Pivot Tables, XLOOKUP/VLOOKUP, Power Query, and large data set analysis
- ERP experience required; Oracle Fusion experience is strongly preferred
- Strong systems aptitude with the ability to quickly learn and navigate new technologies
