Summary of the Role
The Senior Systems Administrator (Platform Services) is responsible for designing, implementing, and supporting enterprise infrastructure platforms, with a focus on virtualization, storage, and data protection technologies. This role supports complex on-premise environments and helps ensure infrastructure is scalable, reliable, secure, and highly available for critical business systems.
The position works closely with infrastructure architecture, operations, security, and application teams to manage enterprise virtualization platforms, storage systems, and backup environments. The ideal candidate is a motivated self-starter with strong engineering experience, a deep understanding of enterprise infrastructure technologies, and a focus on automation and process improvement.
Job Duties:
- Design, build, deploy, monitor, and maintain enterprise virtualization infrastructure to support highly available and scalable platforms.
- Administer and maintain storage platforms, including Fibre Channel SAN environments and enterprise storage arrays.
- Design, implement, and manage backup and data protection platforms supporting virtual machines, databases, and container workloads.
- Support and maintain distributed database workloads and virtualized environments across Windows and Linux platforms.
- Collaborate with infrastructure architecture, security, operations, database, and application teams to support disaster recovery and cyber recovery planning and testing.
- Perform capacity planning, platform lifecycle management, and system currency activities to ensure infrastructure reliability and performance.
- Respond to service requests, incidents, and change requests following established IT operations processes and standards.
- Contribute to infrastructure projects including design, implementation, installation, and configuration of platform services.
- Develop automation and scripting solutions to improve operational efficiency and reduce manual administrative tasks.
- Assist with continuous improvement initiatives related to platform services, infrastructure operations, and service delivery processes.
- Participate in on-call support rotations and occasional on-site infrastructure activities when required.
Qualifications:
- 5+ years of senior-level experience designing, deploying, and supporting complex VMware vSphere environments in large enterprise settings.
- Strong experience managing Fibre Channel SAN environments and enterprise storage platforms, including block and file storage services.
- Experience with enterprise backup and data protection solutions supporting mission-critical environments.
- Deep understanding of virtualization technologies including vCenter, ESXi, high availability, distributed resource scheduling, and related ecosystem tools.
- Experience working with enterprise storage systems and data services such as snapshots, replication, and performance optimization.
- Knowledge of virtualization environments supporting Red Hat Enterprise Linux, Microsoft Windows Server, and Microsoft SQL Server workloads.
- Hands-on experience with automation and scripting tools such as PowerShell, PowerCLI, Bash, or Ansible.
- Strong understanding of storage networking concepts including Fibre Channel SAN architecture and multipathing.
- Experience troubleshooting complex infrastructure environments and resolving performance, capacity, and availability issues.
- Familiarity with additional virtualization platforms or public cloud technologies (e.g., Azure) is considered an asset.
- Strong collaboration and communication skills with the ability to work cross-functionally across infrastructure, operations, and application teams.
- Demonstrated interest in continuous improvement, automation, and evolving infrastructure platform capabilities.
